Apple revamps its performance lineup with new Mac Studio and Mac Pro powered by the M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra.

While the M2 Max edition features a 12-core CPU, up to a 38-core GPU, and up to 96GB of unified memory and 400GB/s memory bandwidth, the M2 Ultra ups the ante with a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. With the M2 Ultra, the M2 Studio and M2 Pro are powerful enough to play 22 streams of 8K ProRes Video.

According to Apple, the Mac Studio with the new M2 Ultra can be up to three times faster than the previous-generation Mac Studio with M1 Ultra. Octane is up to three times faster while DaVinci Resolve will be up to 50per cent faster with video processing. In addition, the Mac Studio supports up to 8K resolution and 240Hz frame rates and with the M2 Ultra, it can drive up to six Pro Display XDRs. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Meanwhile, Apple's top dog in the performance department combines its most powerful chip with the versatility of PCIe expansion: up to a massive 192GB of memory and seven PCIe expansion slots. Mac Pro features seven PCle expansion slots for DSP cards, SDI I/O cards, networking cards or storage; six open expansion slots support gen 4, which is two times faster than before.

The Mac Pro also gets twice as many Thunderbolt ports as before-eight in total-and supports up to six Pro Display XDRs, along with three USB-A ports, two HDMI ports (8K, 240Hz), two 10Gb Ethernet ports, and a high-impedance headphone jack. And of course, it gets Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Orders for the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro start today, June 9, with prices starting at $2,999 for the Mac Studio and $9,999 for the Mac Pro.
